This cache has been archived.

Prime Reviewer: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

This is a kids' cache; great for a family outing suitable for a picnic if you plan ahead! Some shade and toilet facilities. Swings for the disabled. Park hours 6am - 11pm. Coords on cache listing are for parking; the actual cache is at 32º53.203'N 097º13.337'W. Explore the playground, then take a short hike. Trail manageable by toddlers or heavy-duty strollers. Round trip walk is just over 1/2 mile.

Take a trip tracing the steps of a 19th century American immigrant. As European cities grow more crowded and family land holdings shrink with repeated divisions, he decides that his fortune will be better made in the New World. Move from the large "city" just inside the park gate to the "ship" bound for America. He boards after a thorough health exam-- the less healthy are turned away. The trip across the ocean seems to last forever; the low cost steerage space is crowded and food is in short supply. Finally he reaches the American shores and is cleared into the country. Money is scarce, but the eastern cities are too crowded for him-- he's seeking to claim a homestead of his own! He catches a "train" to a western city like St. Louis. Finally he sets off on the trails into the wilderness. His initial campsite was overrun by unfriendly natives, but he was able to choose a claim a bit further away. Follow in his footsteps and seek the cache he left behind when he left his small home and followed the wagons for a new claim in the distant west. You'll know you're getting close when you find the filled in remains of his well near a branch in the trail.

The cache is a large ammo can filled with toys in the $0.50 - $8 range, so come prepared to trade! All items I placed are new, though they may have been removed from their original packaging to allow more goodies to fit in the cache. For the continued enjoyment of future finders, please choose ONE item per child and replace the items taken with items of similar condition and value. The ferret pins we normally hide in caches we place have been previously claimed by finders of the original location.
