Geocache Description:

Devil's Rock - Der Teufelsstein

Dieser kleine Multi (ca 2,5km) führt euch in den Wald oberhalb von Bad Dürkheim. Parken könnt ihr am Besten an der Weilach (N 49°28.600 E 8°o8.851). Los gehts auf dem weiß-roten Weg zum Teufelsstein (N 49° 28.205 E 008° 08.906), über den man sich folgende Geschichte erzählt:

Als bei der Erbauung des Klosters Limburg schon die Fundamente ausgemauert waren, kam der Teufel daher und fragte die Maurer, was sie denn da für einen Bau aufführten."Ei", antwortete ein loser Geselle, "das gibt ein Wirtshaus." "Ein Wirtshaus?" sprach der Böse, "da baue ich auch mit." Und weil er sich anstellig erwies und mit furchtbarer Stärke immer die schwersten Quader aufeinandersetzte und mächtige Säulen herbeischafte, so ließ man ihn wohl mitarbeiten.
Als aber das Gebäude fertig war und er sich's näher anschaute, da merkte er, dass nicht ein Wirtshaus, sondern eine Kirche vor ihm stand. Dies brachte ihn so in Wut, dass er fluchend und in der Absicht davonging, den Bau wieder zu vernichten.
Auf einem gegenüberliegenden Berge fand er ein ungeheures Felsstück; das dünkte ihm gerade recht, die schöne Halle der neuen Klosterkirche niederzuschmettern. Als er jedoch die Felsmasse anfasste, da läutete man drüben in der Abtei mit allen Glocken und erflehte des Himmels Schutz, und siehe, der Stein wurde weich wie Wachs und er konnte ihn nicht halten.
Brüllend verließ der Böse die Stätte; aber das Kloster erblühte immer mehr und war lange eines der berühmtesten in der ganzen Gegend.
Der Stein ist noch heute mit den Spuren des Teufels zu sehen und bekannt unter dem Namen Teufelsstein.

This small multi (2.5 km) leads you in the wood above Bad Dürkheim. You can park at Weilach (N 49,°28,600 E 8°o8.851). The hike starts on the white-red way to the devil's stone (N 49 ° 28.205 E 008 ° 08.906). The story about Devil's Rock:
When with the construction of the cloister of Limburg already the foundations were built, the devil came along and asked the bricklayers what they performed then there for a construction. "Oh", answered a man, " this gives a pub. " " A pub? " he joined in nastily, " there I also build. " And because he turned out handy and put with dreadful strength always the heaviest ashlars on each other and got mighty columns, one let him co-operate. But when the building was ready and he looked it closer, there he noticed that not a pub, but a church stood before him. This brought him so in fury that he walked away cursing and in the intention to destroy the construction. On an opposite mountain he found an immense rock piece. With him he wanted to destroy the nice hall of the new minster. When he touched, nevertheless, the rock mass, one rang over there in the abbey with all bells and requested God's protection. And see, the stone became softy like wax and the devil could not hold him. Still today the stone is to be seen with the tracks of the devil and famously under the name Devil's stone.
