Geocache Description:

This is one of four new caches in Fluehr Park. A clue in each container will lead to a 5th cache hidden in the park. Container is medium Lock N Lock. (Be sure to save the code on the inside lid)

Fluehr Park is a 64 acre park located on Grant Avenue between I-95 and Frankford Avenue. This very active park is well maintained with several ballfields, soccer fields a paved jogging path and even a duck pond. Often you can see as many as 30 dog owners with their dogs in the park. According to the locals this is the closest thing to a dog park in NE Philadelphia.
The site was once home to Eden Hall. The Sisters of the Sacred Heart ran the school, Eden Hall Academy, — A longtime Catholic convent and boarding school for girls. The park was renamed in 1985 in memory of Joseph C. Fluehr Sr. In the 1970s, after the nuns had closed the school for financial reasons, Fluehr Sr. led efforts to protect the site from residential real estate developers. It was later donated to the Fairmount Park commission.
Most of the school buildings, including classrooms, dormitories, a library, a gymnasium and passages connecting them all, succumbed to a major fire on Jan. 31, 1979. In July 2006, the 157 year old Gothic Style Revival chapel was set ablaze by two initial fires, one started in the basement using vodka as an accelerant, and another began by lighting fuel from an overturned generator. The remains of the chapel were bulldozed in 2007.
All five containers are located in the park. Do not try to access the park from RT 95.

The park is open :
