A small cache hidden in the Taipei Botanical Garden
The Taipei Botanical Garden is a quiet oasis in the heart of busy, crowded Taipei. It is located near the intersection of Nan-Hai Road and Ho-Ping West Rd. The nearest MRT station is the Hsiao Nanmen Station.
Within the park, there are winding, paved walkways. Along them, you'll find open gates leading to trails that wind through botanical areas, each of which has a different theme or focus. These areas are only open until 4:30 in the afternoon, so be sure to visit the park before then.
The GPS coordinates will take you to a point along one of the paved walkways where there is a gate leading to the "Bamboo Area." (On maps posted in the park, this area is also called "Gramineae.") Just within the gate, you'll see a colorful information sign that identifies this area as the "Bamboo Area." About 5 meters away, there is a large tree with a thick trunk and thick roots above ground. The cache is hidden within the roots.
This park is full of people on weekends when the weather is good. So be very careful to make sure that other people do not see you remove the cache from the tree or replace it afterwards. Bring a pencil or pen to write in the logbook. There is only enough space in the cache for very small items (e.g., coins etc.).
After finding the cache and exploring the rest of the park, pay a visit to the adjacent National Museum of History, which has an excellent collection of Chinese art and special exhibits.
