Geocache Description:

Located near to Crow Point, near the village of Braunton, North Devon. Cache is hidden on the landward side of a blackthorn bush. The terrain level may get harder in the summer months.

Latest info at the bottom of the description. I leave all the cache descriptions as a historical record of this cache.

This first North Devon Cache placed by the beara team has been hidden near to Crow point at the end of the Toll road out from the village of Braunton. It's hidden only 10 metres off the boardwalk but we think it's going to be fairly tricky to find!

We took the Vellator road then followed the signs to Crow Point. The road is a toll road (£2.00 for cars) with an electronic barrier at N51.04.606 W004.10.116. After a mile or so we parked at N51.04.338 W004.11.578 (now blocked off to protect an SSSI but head to the above and park as close as you can - there's an additional 400m to walk) and set out on the boardwalk.

The cache is only about 10 metres off the boardwalk. Cache is a clear box in a black bag. It contained a jotter block, two biros, two light up biros, a police bug, a knex helicopter, a wallet and three travel bugs. One of our own - barry ther anorak, and two we'd collected...

11/04/04 - did a maintenence check today. Cache was a little visible and it looks like it's been found by a non-geocahcer. They have plundered a lot of the treasure but have left a treasure of their own - a marlboro cigarette!!!!  Could other visitors please let me know if it becomes too easy or trashed and we'll look at resiting it.

Further edit - we did a quick maintenance visit and replaced the full log book and covering bag. The treasure has gradually depleted and wasn't very inspiring so we'll do an other visit in the summer and restock!

27/10/11 - cache completely replaced with new ammo box, containing Tupperware box with new treasure, including a padlock and key, rock magnifying lens and bouncy balls amongst other things. Also has a new log book.

23/06/19 - three DNFs have been logged so I suspect our Ammo box has been plundered :( We now live within sight of this cache location so will replace the cache in the next few days with a temporary plastic box, until I can secure a new ammo box.

30/06/19 - A new cache has been placed, again in an ammo box. It contains an info sheet and a platic box containing a couple of knex helicopters and some light up blackcurrant keyrings! A  new mini log book and pen are also in there. We've uploaded a new set of SPOILER photos to accompany this. These show the exact location of the cache, so only look if you need to... Happy hunting!

05/03/24 - A new cache has been placed, yet again in an Ammo Box, wrapped in a Mole Valley Farmers Sheep Feed bag for a bit of protection from the elements. New photos will be done as the Privet Bush has gone and the area around the Blackthorn is a lot more open. More details are in the hunt. The toll now costs £2.50 and the famous boardwalk has disappeared under the sand, so now it's just a sandy path!
