2010 - NASA Deep Space Odyssey II Diner Dinner Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

KG6EAR: Well, another fun event comes to a close. Looking forward to many fun events in many other venues in Barstow as well. The double feature weekend was definitely a success and thanks to CoffeeFamily5 for sweetening the deal like that! It really worked well for everyone.. One town, two events, one weekend. We'll try to coordinate things like that again (on purpose next time!) for future events in the area.. Just one advantage of getting things organized in this here high desert finally... :)

Geocache Description:

NASA EVENT CACHING & TOUR NASA EVENT DINNER

This post-NASA-tour dinner will be at Peggy Sue's fabulous 50s Diner just north of Barstow.

Directions: Exit off I-15 going South onto Ghost Town Road. Make left going East onto Yermo Rd. Look for the big lot immediately on the left where all the big trucks park in the back all the time etc bordered by I-15 in the back of the lot. You can't miss it!

Dinner time starts at 5 P.M.
--That's 17:00 for all our NASA, international and U.S. Military guests from Fort Irwin and beyond! ;)--

Attendance of the NASA Goldstone Tour event prior is not required, but highly recommended!

Bring your geocoins, bring your travel bugs, and a laser pointer and a flashlight if you plan to do the special night cache to be released during the dinner at some point.

Around 5:30pm or so there will be some prizes and recognition given out: One goes to a lucky FTF'r for finding the Welcome to Barstow cache first!

NASA Goldstone Event Coins

.. in 3D and Glow in the Dark!

Taking direct prepaid orders beginning 5 PM*

White and Red areas are Glow in the Dark (including the stars). The images on either side of the coin will are in 3-D..

(Image is a not-to-scale photo representation of the finished coin sent straight from the mint.)

--
*Our first batch of coins totals 100 coins. We are simultaneously taking prepaid orders for the next batch of coins to come in from the mint (they will be identical). Orders for more than one coin may be met with partial shipments from both batches of coins so that all orders can get an even chance to obtain a minimum number of coins (to be determined based on demand once all orders are placed) from the first batch until we have enough coins to finish filling all prepaid orders in total. The lead time for a the second batch of coins is projected to be less than 3 weeks. Anyone who receives a partial shipment will get free shipping on the second shipment to compensate for their much appreciated patience.

AFTER DINNER: A CHALLENGING & MOST ILLUMINATING NIGHT CACHE

--> *SPECIAL NIGHT CACHE ONLY!

** We are sorry, but for safety reasons, due to harsh rainy weather and the muddy impassible conditions created around the cache site, the night laser-cache part of the event has had to be cancelled and will be moved to a different event later in the year. The rest of the evening event (at Peggy Sues) will proceed as planned.**

* Because "Cache-mob Hysteria" and "FTF Fever" are inherently dangerous in and of themselves and are known to have infected cachers frequently at events like this one, this night cache requires an inoculation consisting of signing of the same release waiver that the day caches required before we will give out the information for this cache. The cache is additionally located in not the most unchallenging situations of terrain and unusual passageways of travel. We have taken precautions for your safety in designing this one of a kind cache to try to minimize accidents and approach safety from a built-in design point of view instead of an "oh yeah, that..." tack-on kind of approach, but we can't prevent all accidents from happening for unforeseen reasons from said infectious conditions etc etc blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda so you will have to sign the release to do this cache too or miss out on the fun! ;)

Tests on this and other event pages with the top 4 browsers on Macs and PCs have determined that for faster operation and more accurate rendering of these pages (and most pages in general), using either Apple's Safari web browser (preinstalled on Mac OS and iPhones) or Google's Chrome web browsers on either operating system will provide an equally excellent experience. Other browsers provide more sluggish load-speeds, or less-accurate positioning or presentation of page elements that can be distracting, depending on the browser and the page intricacy level..
