Santa Eufémia da Serra [Sintra] Traditional Geocache

O LOCAL

Santa Eufémia da Serra, local de peregrinação dos devotos católicos, é tido como o local da serra de Sintra mais remotamente habitado, provavelmente desde cerca 4000 a.C.

Os levantamentos arqueológicos demonstram que o local foi habitado nos períodos Neolíticos e do Cobre, e que terá sido reocupado na época do Ferro por uma cultura celta (cultura de Alpiarça), os quais terão erigido um templo dedicado à Lua.

Posteriormente houve uma ocupação romana na época republicana (século II a.C.).

No Século XVII um cavaleiro francês mandou construir a capela de Santa Eufémia no local onde terá existido o templo dedicado à Lua.

O local eleva-se a 463m e em dias limpos é privilegiado com uma vista de excepção.

Santa Eufémia da Serra: The birthplace of Sintra.

THE PLACE

Santa Eufémia da Serra, pilgrimage place for the catholic devote, is considered the most remotely inhabited place in the Sintra mountain , probably since 4000 b.C.

The archeologically survey show that the place was inhabited on the Neolithic and Copper period, it would have been reoccupied during the iron period by a Celtic culture (culture from Alpiarça), these have erected a temple dedicated to the moon.

Afterwards there was a Roman occupation, during the republican epoch (century II b.C.).

On the XVII century a French knight ordered the construction of the chapel of Santa Eufémia on the place where before was the temple dedicated to the moon.

The place ascends at 463m and on clear days is favoured by an exceptional view.
