This will be a moderate hike to a beautiful cascading waterfall
in Polk County that very few know of. Even fewer use this trail.
There are several small pretty falls along the trail. The cache is
not on this creek. All clues and cache are hidden under rocks or in
rock crevices. There is no need to pick up or flip any rocks until
the cache location. The clues are peeking out from their spot,
slightly. Please replace clues and cache carefully. If clues are
exposed too much, muggles will see them. Pushed in too far and
nobody will find them. Very few people visit this waterfall but if
muggles are present, it will be tough to get the cache as it is
close the waterfall.
Parking coordinates are N 35 15.338 W 082 18.031 which is on the
right side along Holbert Cove Rd.
The GPS was not having a good day with the steep gorge and all
the tree cover, so pay attention to each clue as you come to it.
All clues are within 4 or 5 steps of the trail. If for some reason
you just cannot find a clue, keep following the trail. You will
come to the waterfall. I think it may even be possible to do this
without GPS once at the parking area.
The first stage is called "The Cave" . Look for a small cave on
your right. It is big enough to hide from the rain in. Never hide
in a cave during lightning, though. Electricity likes the rock. The
clue is hidden in a crack near the trail. No climbing needed.
Stage 2 is Block of Rock
Stage 3 is Creek Crossing
The clues are on laminated cards and the cache is an ammo box.
The cache has lots of goodies. The seashells came from Del Ray
Beach, Florida. There are trash bags in the cache. After a heavy
rain, trash will wash down from the interstate. Please CITO if you
can. Watch your GPS track if you head home by I-26 south. You'll be
amazed how close, so many people pass this treasure.
