I encourage caching by public transport. Take the Northern Line
to Camden Town or Kentish Town and continue on Bus C2 or 214
to Parliament Hill Fields to get within about 200m of the
cache. Alternatively, take a bus, train or tube to Hampstead Heath
or Hampstead, and walk about 1-1.5km through the park. A bike will
get you very close to the cache.
Hampstead Heath
Hampstead Heath is North London's largest and probably most
important green space. The wildest of London's parks has fields to
run in, long grass to roll in, woods to hide in and, most famously,
ponds to swim in. In north London this is THE place to get back to
nature. Strewn with picnickers, cyclists, families and the rest,
the heath is large enough and has enough copses, hills and mounds
that a quiet spot is never far away.
Parliament Hill Fields and Highgate Ponds
This cache is located next to the first one of the main Highgate
side ponds, simply named "Highgate Pond No. 1". Next up further
north are the men's bathing pond, the model boating pond, the Bird
Sanctuary pond, the ladies' bathing pond and the Stock pond. The
adjacent Parliament Hill Fields are used as sports- and
playgrounds, a bit further down are also sports facilities
including an athletics track and the Lido.
The Cache
You're looking for a standard 35mm cache (won't hold swaps). No
pen inside, bring your own. Please take care
to replace the cache carefully and exactly as found, to make sure
that it's safely attached, and can't easily be seen from outside OR
inside.
Take note of the letter and number under the lid for the
bonus cache.
Wheelchair Users
There's a paved path until about 50m from the cache, the last
part however is over a small path.
