How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

How far would you go to find something that you love? To the end of your neighborhood? To the end of your city? To the end of your state? To the end of your country? To the ends of the world? To find this cache you may just have to do all of the above.

Geocaching has been known to take people to places that they would have never gone otherwise. The purpose of this cache is to extend those boundaries for some individuals. Hopefully this will turn out to be a very enjoyable adventure for some. I'm looking forward to reading your adventure logs and hearing about where this cache has taken you.

At the posted coordinates you will find "The Deadman's Chest".
The key to the chest is being held by pirates whom seek to rescue Capt. Jack Sparrow. Your mission is to find one of the follow individuals whom possess such a key:

Elizabeth Swann
William Turner
Capt. Teague Sparrow
Tia Dalma
Joshamee Gibbs
Bootstrap Bill
Hector Barbossa

The Hike
Parking for this cache can be found at N35°18.652 W080°02.603 just off of NC HWY 24/27. The Uwharrie Trail to the west of the parking area will take you within 0.17 of the cache. It is about a hours hike one way. The trail will switch-back a few times but will generally get you within 0.17.
There are a few primitive camping sites along the trail. The first two are located right on Woodrum Creek and there is another one farther on down the trail which is atop a mountain.
Woodrum Creek Camp #1 - N35° 18.946 W080° 02.784
Woodrum Creek Camp #2 - N35° 19.065 W080° 02.757

Hill Top Camp - N35° 19.591 W080° 02.602
Woodrun Camp - N35° 19.654 W080° 02.079
You can also pick up the "Keyauwee Trail" @ N35° 19.676 W080° 02.157

It has come to my attention that people are attempting to have other cachers mail them keys. Please do not do this. The point of this cache is to create an adventure for you to seek out the keys and unlock the cache. No hand offs will be allowed. You must go to the cache that the TB is in, log that cache, and then hunt this cache. If this cache is "hacked" I will post about it in the triad forums and you will be humiliated until no end. There is a good possibility that your geocaching reputation will be ruined forever and we all know that nobody wants that! I'm sorry to have to write this but some people ruin it for everyone.
