Geocache Description:

Medium-size cache located on a maintained trail approximately 1/2 mile from the road. Placed by Cub Scouts in Morris Pack 3 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting in America.

This cache was placed by Cub Scouts from Morris Pack 3 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Boys Scouts of America. It is located in the General Jacob Morris State Forest, a few miles down the valley from the village.

This state forest is named for Jacob Morris, a Revolutionary War general and son of Lewis Morris, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The protected land comprises some of the original grant that General Morris received as compensation for property in the Bronx, which was lost when destroyed by the British. General Morris first came to the area in 1787 to settle and take claim to his land. General Morris was not the first white settler in the valley, but he was among the first and he came at a time the the area was virutally all wilderness.

Some trails are maintained throughout the property by volunteers and descedants of the Morris family, who made the land trust possible.

Park at N 42° 31.717 W 075° 18.867 (off Pittsley Road) and follow the trail a little less than 1/2 mile to the hide. It is located not far from the path. Take some time to explore the trails further and see some spectacular views of the Butternut Valley. We look forward to reading your log entries. Please let us know if you are or were a scout!

The original cache contains two Boy Scout of America Travel Coins, One travel bug retrieved from "Cub Scout Cache" in Naperville, Illinois, and many other goodies.
