This cache is being placed as a memorial to Borders Books & Music.
I got the idea for what became a series of 16 caches from my wife's former workplace. She was employed at Borders Books & Music in Bridgewater, NJ, from 2002 through 2006. Borders, of course, was one of the United States' two largest brick and mortar bookstores. However, due to overexpansion, bad management, and the surge of Amazon as a book purveyor and e-book leader, Borders was forced into Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The owners were unable to find a buyer for the company, and all its retail locations closed by September 2011.
In order to honor the memory of the good times both she and I had here, I'm placing a series of caches at each of New Jersey's retail locations.
I think we only visited the inside of the Marlton location once and bought a few things. I remember it being very similar to the Bridgewater store in layout. If you look northwest from the cache site, you can see the store through the trees.
Please do not attempt to park on Rt. 73 to find this cache. There are parking lots in the old Borders lot before reaching the cache and at the building after it - I suggest you park there. Please bring your own writing implement, and remember to re-hide the cache where you found it.
