Shimogamo-jinja is one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto, famous for its natural forest called Tadasu-no-mori which was selected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
It has been said the original shrine was built in BC 90 during Emperor Sujin's period.
Enjoy visiting the old shrine halls to appreciate the old history of Japan. Most of halls are now designated as National Treasures or Distinguished Cultural Heritages.
A cache is placed near its main gate accessible from one of trails through the Tadasu-no-mori forest. The cache can be reached anytime but it is recommended to come here in day time. The reason can be understood once you arrive at the cache site.
