Grant's Vicksburg Campaign, Cache 6 of 11.

Located in the Wintergreen Cemetery, Port Gibson, Mississippi. Nearby are the graves of some of the CSA soldiers whose bodies were recovered from the battlefield west of the city. There is one Rev War soldier buried next to the Southern ranks. Please visit the tourism building, located on Hwy. 61, south end of town for information concerning walking tours. The city is home to many pretty houses of worship to include the oldest synagogue in Mississippi, Gemiluth Chassed, circa 1891 and the 1st Presbyterian Church with its golden hand pointing skyward. Port Gibson is also the hometown of General Earl Van Dorn. He is buried in Wintergreen Cemetery alongside his father. There are many interesting headstones to be seen here, so please take your time and explore our past. Please record your name and the date of visit on the small log contained within the key holder. It unscrews at the rubber gasket at its the center. Post your comments on the cache page only. Cache contains short bio of Van Dorn and a MEMA penlight for the first finder. Explore Rodney Road and the Shaifer House to the west of the city. I recommend that you go to www.civilwaralbum.com to see maps, photos, and other items concerning Grant's Campaign.
