Geocache Description:

The cache is a metal ammo can (10” long x 3.5” wide x 7” high). The Cache is lightly covered with pinestraw. The cache initially contains: Log, pencil, Afghanistan bills, El Salvador Centavo coin, Nicaragua Cordoba coin, key ring, Crayon pack, and miscellaneous pocket toys.

The cache is located approximately 455 meters from the Sothern Pines Reservoir Park parking lot, and is on the South side of the lake.

The park is open to the public from dawn to dusk, all-year-round. Pets must be on a leash.

Park entrance from NC Highway 22: N 35°13.014 W 079°23.681.

The Parking lot is located at: N 35°12.860 W 079°24.054.

The Park has a 2.1 mile long walking trail, which goes all the way around the lake. Plant identification markers are placed next to the various plants along the trail.

There are two scenic rest areas nearby the cache, further South along the trail at the Southwest end of the lake:

1. Rest area at N 35°12.684' W 079°24.448'
2. Footbridge & rest area at N 35°12.644' W 079°24.569'.

The South side of the lake has been burned recently. Take appropriate protective measures, e.g. towels to cover your vehicle seats and baby wipes to wipe the black marks off your shoes before you get back in your vehicle.

We replaced the Ammo can and moved the cache from its old location to a better concealment area. The posted coordinates are the new coordinates.

Enjoy the hike and adventure!
