How Geocaching Works
A quick stop at the edge of Hale.
This is the Milwaukee Road mainline roadbed. My grandmother lived a couple blocks from here and when I stayed at her house during summer vacation the big excitement was to walk down to the tracks and watch as the worker in the mail car tossed out the bag while a hook extending from the car got the outgoing bag that had been hung on a pole. The postmaster (owner of the general store) then carried the bag back up to the store. The Milwaukee Road pulled up the tracks more than 30 years ago, the general store has been closed for many years, I'm not sure if Hale is on a rural route from Olin or Wyoming, and of course my grandmother has been gone for many years. But memories still exist and geocaching gives me a chance to remember them and pass them on.
