Geocache Description:

Well-hidden cache in Rapidan Wildlife Management Area. Easy (if slow) drive, best for 4WD, but possible for 2WD in dry weather. Not much hiking involved.

This cache was placed in honor of our search for our dog Jane, who disappeared on New Year's Eve, and who was found (hooray!) on the 2nd. We searched this area and thought it'd be a great place for a cache.

Cache is in Rapidan Wildlife Management Area, just past the border of Shenandoah National Park. It is not in the park.

Starting at Route 231 in Madison, head north and take Route 670 at Banco. Make a left onto the first bridge past Criglersville, and then a right onto Route 649 (Quaker Run Road) as soon as you cross the bridge. Start heading toward the mountains.

Stay on Route 649. After about 2.4 miles, you'll see a sign notifying you that state maintenance is ending. Drive--carefully--another 3.2 miles. You'll go up Chapman Mountain, over Blakey Ridge, and into Shenandoah NP, coming down along the headwaters of the Rapidan River. Keep driving. Eventually, you'll cross a small bridge over the Rapidan. You're now in the Wildlife Management Area. Make a left into the small parking area just past the bridge. Admire the river. Commence your search. The cache is well-hidden, but not far away.

This area is used by hunters, so be sensible. There's no hunting allowed on Sundays. Also, lots of poison ivy, but we tried to pick a fairly safe spot. Finally, this is a pretty thickly forested area--your gps may give you some trouble. We'll try to leave a good hint.

Cache was placed with three travel bugs and a first finder's prize, along with lots of small rewards.

Good luck!
