The 'Hoher Kasten' cache is overlooking the Rheintal.
Placed this cache today during a wonderfull hike.
The cache location is on mountain 'Hoher Kasten', but around 20 min to walk from its peak and has a great view over the Rheintal (and Appenzell on the other side). This is a quite remote cache. You will need several hours to get there (and back).
The cache is a tupperware-box. Initial content:
- Logbook (leave it there !!)
- Pen (leave it there!!)
- Screwdriver
- Cardgame
- Mini-PDA (Yes, it is brandnew, but only a small and cheap version)
- Computercable (RJ45)
- 40 Glasbowles (diamonds?)
- Set to make bubbles
- some other small stuff
- Travel-bug 'Schwarzwaldmaedel'
Schwarzwaldmaedel can now really look down on the Rheintal directly from inside the box.........
There are 3 possibilitys to reach this cache (of course there may be others I do not know of)
Geocacher: You can combine this cache with the 'Montlinger Schwamm' cache. In the village 'Oberriet' look for N47'19.750/E9'32.317. Then follow the signs pointing to 'Montlinger Schwamm'. You'll find the Parking area and Restaurant at N47'18.658/E9'30.423. From there, it's about 20 Minutes to walk until you reach the 'Montlinger Schwamm' cache at N47'18.608/E9'30.055. From this cache it is a strong walk uphill of about 80 min. (It's worth it, I can tell you)
Lazy: You can take the cable-train from the other side (Appenzell/Bruelisau) up to Hoher-Kasten. From there you will find this cache using your GPS.
Sporty: You can make make all the way up to Hoher-Kasten by bike. But be warned: it is going UP-UP-UP. But you can make it by bike almost to the cache.
Stay smart: You do NOT have to climb over the fence or wall that is up there. The area behind the wall is quite dangerous, but the cache is in a perfectly safe area. This is a moutain area, but all you need to reach it are good shoes and a pair of strong legs.
