Located west of Rangely off Route 16. Just before the Cupsuptic Boat Launch.
This cache is located at the crash site of a B-17 bomber which occured on July 11th, 1944. (World War II) The plane was flying from Nebraska to the then "Dow Field" in Bangor, Maine. It got way off course and got lost in the foggy mountains of western Maine. (Rangley area) While attempting to get below the fog and see if they could recognize any familiar land features, the slammed into Deer Mountain.
A memorial was dedicated at the site on July 15th, 2006, this is the location of the cache. To find the site take the Morton Cutoff Road from Route 16 and then follow the "B-17 Crash Site" signs. Once you get off route 16, these roads are dirt and get worse the closer you get to the memorial site. However, with slow going, you can make it with a car no problem. It's about a 10 mile ride once you leave Route 16.
