Geocache Description:

You can access this cache from either end of potter mountain rd. although it can be pretty washed out on the Hancock side. It involves a short hike up from the road on one of several trails in the area.

The first vehicle I ever owned growing up was a 1978 Jeep CJ7. My father and I bought it for $450 and spent numerous hours making it road and trail worthy. I learned a lot working on this project with dad and in the beginning my contribution was to play "Gopher", Go for this, and go for that. We worked out in the garage sometimes at night and dad would often say to me "get that!@#$%^& light out of my eyes!"

The state has since closed the trails on the mountain behind my house to vehicles over one thousand pounds where my friends and I had spent so much time four wheeling and undoing the hard work dad and I had put into the jeep.

There was a bottomless mud pit at the top of Potter Mountain that is there to this day. Legend has it that it once swallowed a ford truck whole. I used to pull up to the edge in my Jeep and taunt my friends’ revving the engine like I was going to go for it until one day one of them yelled out “It’s a Jeep! GO-FOR IT!”

It was a long hike back to my house to call someone that owned a truck and a chain (other than my dad) to pull my Jeep off of the ford.

Surprisingly the Jeep fell apart years later as Jeeps often do and I sold it for $450 without a motor. Its rotting carcase now resides at the junk yard at the bottom of the mountain.

Now thirteen years later I bought another Jeep CJ7 and completely rebuilt it from the ground up. It turned into a bit of an obsession and a huge money pit! But it’s a lot of fun and my wife enjoys riding around in it with no top on. (The Jeep that is).

Even though your not supposed to drive up to this place there are no signs saying otherwise. Its not a far hike from the parking area at the top of the mountain. Enjoy the view! Just watch out for the mud pit!

There are Two Jeep travel bugs, one yellow, one green and my first travel bug "geocaching handbook" as well as some good swag to start off with. I have also included AA batteries for chasing the goat, some bug spray and "sting-eze" for mitiford in case there are any hornets like my first cache, sorry 'bout that!

Please take a pic of yourself or preferably your jeep/truck if you made it to the top.
