Geocache Description:

A small cache for you to find in a beautiful Johnson County, Iowa park. Respect the park rules and have fun!

Metal truss bridges were most frequently erected in Iowa between about 1895 and 1910. The Pratt truss bridge design was originally patented by Thomas and Caleb Pratt of Boston in 1844. In its earliest form, the Pratt truss was a combination wood and iron truss. The top chord and verticals acted in compression and were made of wood, while the bottom chord and inclined members acted in tension and were made of iron. A Pratt truss bridge can be recognized by its vertical members and diagonals that slope down towards the center. This combination Pratt truss was built in the early 1900's and originally spanned Old Mans Creek near Iowa City.

Beautiful F.W. Kent Park comprises 1,082 acres with over 9 miles of trails, and 7 old-time county-road bridges that have been relocated for crossing different parts of the lake and ponds there. Enjoy the park and be sure to visit its other not too far bridges too.
