ipodguy: Time to let this one go. The trail is flooded, trees are down and my shell floated away!

Geocache Description:

Eno's Park is an area with bountiful native wildlife. Many species of plants, birds, fish, reptiles and other animals call this place home.

While out hiking several years ago, I noticed an area where there is a seemingly large population of Eastern Box Turtles. Being a fan of reptiles, I have come to this spot numerous times to visit them. And, when I find "escapees" from people's backyards on the roads, this is where I bring them.

I have placed a small cache in this area about ten feet off the trail so you can visit them as well. No bushwhacking is required to get to this area and there are two routes you can take.. Once you pass the large hole in the ground, you are in Eastern Box Turtle territory.

Please treat it with respect and do not bring any of these turtles home! Not only is it illegal, wild turtles make poor pets. They have everything they need here and don't want to visit your backyard, bathtub or spare fish tank.

If you want to spot these turtles, the best time to go is directly after a rain. This is when they are active - drinking water and hunting worms.

Males typically are the most colorful with bright orange markings on the carapace (shell) and skin. They also have red eyes. Females tend to be duller with less markings on the shell and skin. Their eyes are dull brown. An interesting thing I learned is that the female population in this spot are much more colorful than others I have observed elsewhere.

I hope you enjoy this cache and have the opportunity to spot one of these cute little guys.
