This cache is part of the Linn Creek Trail: Marshalltown History series. Follow the bike trail to a series of caches highlighting prominent figures in Marshalltown history. Each cache will require you to leave the trail and search for a hidden cache. The caches in this series vary in difficulty and terrain.
Linda Bloom (1949 – 2011)
Linda Bloom was a professor of Health, Exercise Physiology, and Wellness at MCC as well as a long-time coach of swimming and golf. Her Marshalltown High School girls' swimming team won two state runner-up titles and the girls' golf team won the state championship team in 2005. Linda organized and coached a summer competitive swimming team for area youth for 25 years. Bloom's coaching and mentoring successes were recognized many times by the Iowa Girls High School Athletics Union, receiving numerous awards for Coach of the Year. Linda spearheaded collaboration efforts to add seats to the new Y pool, making the facility a regional draw for competitive swimming events. Linda was an IGHSAU Board member from 2004 – 2011. As part of this role, she was instrumental in bringing the Iowa High School Girls state swim meet to Marshalltown. In 2011 the pool was renamed the Linda Bloom Natatorium in her honor.
