Date and Time : Friday 9th October 2015; starting at 10:00am
********* PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE *********
Venue : Tamatea High School, Technology Block
(listed co-ordinates are the nearest car park with around 10 parking spaces with a further 20 more just a few meters away)
We have been asked to help the local DOC team in making a total of 10 new cache placements at two sites within the Hawkes Bay region. The aim of this initiative is to inform and educate people about the work of DOC. Geocaching is considered as a fun way to achieve this, get families in to the outside and of course to geocaching in general. The geocaches will perhaps be of a simple level.
Directions: Entrance to the school is from Freyberg Avenue (at the back of Anderson Park) but make sure you don't go to the Intermediate School near by. Off Freyberg Avenue, go through the main gate and turn immediately to your right before the admin car park. Follow the road as it bends to the left and you'll soon be at the posted coordinates. Look for an open door in to the main building.

Activities : The purpose of the event is to make, or complete a 'simple structure' that can be used to make these DOC caches quite special. In general, we will be making something that a cache can be placed in. For example, a miniature version of an old DOC hut could be made where the cache and it's listing page may contain information about the history and purpose of such huts. Depending upon numbers, you could be working in small groups, perhaps in families or with someone 'new'.
A separate group may also work on the two selected sites and where precisely the caches will be located. However, some work may have already been done on this by the time of the event.
Materials : Officially these will not normally be provided, perhaps raid your shed for suitable things that could be used. Please bear in mind that the constructions will be expected to last in all weather conditions, eg timber will need to be treated. A range of tools can be used at the venue but you may prefer to bring your own too.
Facilities : No food or drinks will be provided but you may bring your own. Simple cooking facilities (microwave etc) will be made available if needed. On site toilets, including for the disabled, are available.
Completion : Caches will need to be completed and their page listing created in time for the NGC in early November.
