Geocache Description:

Night Cache! An ammo can of goodies that MUST be done at night.Take a camera. The view of the valley at night is worth the trip.

AS USUAL, THE COORDINATES LISTED ARE NOT THOSE OF THE CACHE

Rather, they are to Central Park, a convenient parking place and the start of your nighttime adventure. Here, you can relax until it is dark enough to begin the hunt. While this cache might be possible in the daytime, it would be extremely difficult. At night, it should be fairly easy and a lot of fun. The difficulty rating reflects the final hill, and the special equipment you need.

For this cache, you need to bring a flashlight. You need a “good” flashlight, not a keyring LED or a single AA-cell Mag-light. If possible, you’d like it to project a beam out to 100 feet, though we’ve tried to place the markers closer together. We set this up with a Gerber LX-3.0, (3-watt LED flashlight that has a vision warning sticker on the body), but you don’t really need anything that powerful. Strong, LED flashlights like the LX-3.0 may be easier to use on this cache since they give off a much whiter light than a standard bulb.

You should also bring a friend with a flashlight. First, they provide you with a backup light in case yours fails. And second, it is always a good idea to have someone with you at night. They can help scare away any unwanted wildlife that might be out looking for dinner. Ideally, this friend should NOT be able to run as fast as you can.

To Find The Cache:
Begin at the listed coordinates, a picnic table in the park, after it is fully dark. (You can leave your GPSr in the car. You won't need it once you've found the starting point, and it is only excess gear that you might lose in the dark). Turn on your flashlight and slowly illuminate the surrounding terrain. You are looking for small, bright yellow/orange or silver triangular reflectors affixed to the surrounding terrain, structures or vegetation. These are “retro reflectors” that bounce light directly back to the source. You will be able to see the reflectors best when you hold your flashlight at eye level. Failing to hold your flashlight at eye level will make the reflectors difficult to see. When you see the reflector, walk to it. From this new position, repeat the procedure, following the reflectors all the way to the cache.

The “trail” begins as an easy stroll, but ends by going up a short hill. Some minor to moderate bushwhacking will be encountered during the final 200 feet of the hunt. If your light is strong enough, you may be able to spot reflectors farther out; allowing you to take shortcuts. These shortcuts may involve more or less bushwhacking, depending on the trail you choose.

The cache is marked with a Silver-white “diamond” with a red center

There is a bag with special prizes for FTF. Have fun, but be safe and do not feed the animals.

Note: While the log says to read the directions for logging the cache, we decided not to make any special instructions. Please ignore that message on the logbook.
