Geocache Description:

A good hike through some really unique woods

While overseas with the Navy, Chris was searching for a cache or two to do in Sicily. He came upon one that caught his eye called “No Minutes, No Seconds” (or something like that). It intrigued him, so he looked into it deeper and discovered the whole Degree Confluence Project deal. On earth, where the major lines of latitude cross the major lines of longitude, that is called a “degree confluence” No minutes, no seconds. N44.00.000 W070.00.000 is one example of this. Upon further investigation and finding the website: (visit link) it was discovered that there are 12 such confluences in Maine. 10 are on or near dry land and 2 are just off the coast. There is a graphic from the website in the gallery illustrating this.

The SuitedPair were brand new to caching at this time and had only found around 15 caches so far. But, we were hooked! We wanted to place some caches of our own, too, but wanted to come up with something cool; something neat! On the Confluence Project website, we noticed that no one person had ever been to ALL of the confluences in Maine. We have taken this on as a challenge! Not only are we going to visit all of them, but we are going to place a cache at (or really near) all of them as well!

This confluence is only about 6 or 8 miles from The Deck. It is right in the center of a block formed by the Ward Road, The West Bouroughs road, and the Meadows road. You can find your way in whatever is easiest for you. I went out one afternoon and placed this cache after zeroing in on the confluence. I actually never really got it to zero out exactly. But I did come within .001 on both latitude and longitude. I could get one to zero out but the other would be one click off! Post a picture of your GPS and see how close you can get it to zero out.

You are looking for a camo painted .223 ammo box. It is within 10 feet of the confluence. Original contents are the usual SWAG. Bug wipes, temporary tattoos, a manicure/pedicure kit, handi-wipes a collectible (not trackable) coin and a log book and pen.

Please take a picture of how close you could get your GPS to zero out and post it with your log. We got it exactly!

Feel free to go to the Confluence website and log your visit. It, like Geocaching.com is free

Congratulations to IAMPAW for gathering up the courage to attack this one! No, there aren't many good ways in. I asked the landowner near the No Trespassing signs and she gave me permission to use the trails behind her home.It IS a tough one. But by the nature of the series of caches, they aren't all going to be easy. Some are VERY easy, though, it's just a matter of getting 20 miles past Caribou to get to it!
