Wire Chicken Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

gbmcache: After an eight year run I am archiving this, one of my favorite caches. As of late the first stage, the interesting one has been muggled too many times. Maybe someone else will honor this cache with a different idea. Maybe I will do that myself.

Geocache Description:

The first stage of the cache is a nano, and is on the chicken. The cache itself is a bit larger and located nearby.

Driving to and fro on Monroe Road in Charlotte, you may or may not have noticed this amazing sculpture. I have been surprised at the number of people to whom I have mentioned the sculpture and who have never noticed it.

The chicken was sculpted in 1991 by Jim Nicholson and given to Guadalupe “Lupie” Duran, the owner of the establishment on whose land the sculpture resides, and who has given permission for the cache. This is your chance to get up close and admire The Wire Chicken.

Actually, the framework is more than merely wire. There is no telling how many pounds of steel and hours of metal working went into the creation of the chicken. For me, it has always been “The Wire Chicken."

----------------------------------------------------

To find the coordinates to the cache, which is fairly close by:

N 35* 12.xxx
W 80* 48.yyy

In the nano are written two digits, one Red and one Black. Take the last three digits of the listed coordinates, N and W, and work out the following:

xxx: N – (R x B x R) + (R + B)
yyy: W – R – 1

checksum: x+x+x+y+y+y = 20

----------------------------------------------------

You will notice that any approach to the chicken might be under the close scrutiny of patrons and staff. So, stand back and admire the chicken. When you have spotted the cache make a stealthy approach and retrieve the container. After you have recorded the necessary information return the container in like fashion and make your calculations. The cache location should be under less observation, but use stealth nevertheless.

After you make your find, go inside and look for Lupie. She is the lady bustling about and looking like she is in charge. Tell her you are a geocacher and made the find. No reward here, just an acknowledgement to the lady who allowed the cache to be placed on her property.
