August 15, 2009 by trustking (2751 found) Oh man, I hate to be the bearer of “Bad News”! GCHYBV is totally ruined…..the lid is so badly bent it won’t close and all the contents are soaked and strewn all over the place. A bear?......the mountain lion from Mountain Lion Crossing? You will have to get right up there to “fix” it. Ok, ok, I am just kidding….stop moaning and groaning! Hahaha. It is in great shape! The last cacher who signed it was from Germany and wrote a paragraph in the log book all in German! So Metropolitan and European! If I ever have to go back to this one again, I am coming over the fence from the north! Do you know how close Schott Overlook is to this one? I could see the rest stop from some of my bushwhacking on top and to the west. Getting to GC1VF47 was pretty good going but from there everything is straight up! After last night’s heavy rain, the trail was a little washed out and hard to find……so I followed my GPS around the west side of the “hill” and up over the top finally finding the trail. Coming back the trail was more apparent and seemed steeper than my bushwhack around the west side! Well, the trail was easy to follow until it turned east…..but my GPS said I should go more west….and there was a pretty decent trail to the west. So I proceed west getting closer and closer to the cache…..until the trail ran out and more….bushwhack! Not a good idea as I was to see in an hour or so. As a side note, I did find several iron pieces that looked like the gas pedal and brake pedal from an old Model T among other things at N 34 27.700 W 201 07.041 as I was bushwhacking on top and west. Well, to make a long story shorter, I did come around the north side of the river bed and descended down some pretty tricky rocks where the night’s rain really washed it all out. I saw across the ravine the sign for Fern Cave so headed toward it and finally got to the cache site. You know, following the trail is just so boring and plain vanilla…..Oh yeah; I put the whipping cream, cherries, and nuts on thing today! Oh did I mention you can’t carry enough water in the 97degree Canyon heat on top of all the bushwhacking! Luckily on the way back I met some hikers that were not trying to walk to the next county through the Canyon like I was and shared a bottle of water…..made it back to the parking area where I had several more bottles of water on ice……just had to battle a couple of bouts of leg and foot cramps to get there. I did sign the log! TFTC……and Semper Fi! trustking

May 21, 2009 by Bergzwerge (1670 found) By far the longest hike to get to a cache during our vacation, but we enyoyed it very much. It is one of our favourite caches in Texas until now. We left a coin.Greetings from Germany and thanks for the cache, Bergzwerge

March 19, 2009 by zoothornrollo (5283 found) We made it! We did 27 caches and 11 counties yesterday , and this ONE was more satisfying. No muggles so far. Took notepad, left personal tag, ZHR was here pencil, and sparkly rainbow lizard. We have been hiking longer than caching, and really like to combine the two hobbies. This has to be our favorite State park.
