Geocache Description:

G:UK cache rating
The cache is NOT at the location above, but is within a 5 mile radius. Solve the clues to find the cache.

Parking for several cars off-road is available within about 0.75 miles west south west of the cache.

The year is 2112.

Thirty-two years prior to this an Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) now a common sight in the skies over England, registration G-S3970 flying at 661.46 knots, crashed into heavy woodland whilst trying to avoid a mid-air collision with another aircraft.

There was a lot of speculation at the time that the aircraft it was avoiding was in fact a UFO, and that the UAV was on an intercept mission. However, Freedom of Information searches reveal nothing. The interesting thing is, that despite a number of eye-witness accounts of the crash at the time and strange flashing lights that have been reported in the forest ever since, nothing was ever found of the wreckage.

Until last week, that is...

A faint beacon signal from the aircraft's black box has been picked up. The signal seems to be coming from within a 5 mile radius of the above co-ordinates. The eye witness accounts, reproduced below, give further information as to the crash site location.

Witness 1. Location: Ham Hill War Memorial. Time: 1316Z. Date: 27 December 2080.

Witness statement: "Standing at the war memorial I was enjoying the view when I saw a bright flash. A minute and 9 seconds seconds later I heard the explosion. It was 15 degrees C outside, which was quite mild for that time of year."

Witness 2. Location: Stockland transmitter. Time: 1315Z. Date: 27 December 2080.

Witness statement: "I'm a maintenance engineer. I was working on the transmitter preparing it for BBC45, when I saw a bright flash in the sky followed by a loud explosion about 45 seconds later. What on earth was it? "

Witness 3. Location: Wellington Monument. Time: 1315Z. Date: 27 December 2080.

Witness statement: "I was at the top of the monument, having got the key from the local farm, and was looking out of one of the slits in the top when a UFO shaped like two plates passed directly overhead! Then some 60 seconds later I heard the explosion. "

Local Air Crash Hazard And Observer Specialists (A.C.H.A.O.S.) are hot on the trail and have already confirmed that using triangulation techniques based on the eyewitness accounts a significant location is revealed, but they admit from here the trail goes cold. Leaving no stone unturned your task is to beat A.C.H.A.O.S. to the black box.

Additional information:
The photograph provided by the initial investigation team might help you.

At least one of the witnesses saw the event on the ground as well as in the sky.

The UAV may have been flying south.

Assume the UFO and UAV were travelling at the same speed.

You do not need to visit the witness positions.

The cache has two compartments, so be sure to check both. The initial contents include a White Jeep to entice you out of the woodwork to solve a mystery that has yet to happen!

Please leave the black box (12" x 5" x 7") well hidden.....if you can find it.
