Geocache Description:

This cache is located atop the bluffs along the scenic Iowa River, south of Steamboat Rock. You will need a monkey to sign the log.

The park is open from 6am to 10:30pm. Hunting is allowed in some areas and you should wear blaze orange if visiting during hunting season.

This 122 acre state preserve may be accessed through Tower Rock, Fallen Rock Wildlife Area or the Iowa River.  The property has many unique attributes including the native sandstone bluffs that in some places are more than 100 feet high. This area also offers many rare species of plant life including native white pines, as well as yellow and white birch trees. Fallen Rock State Preserve offers fishing, hunting, and hiking along the Iowa River.

The Wildlife area covers 204 acres of land. An eagle’s nest was located in the northern edge of the area, started in 2003 and became active in 2004.

The closest parking is to the south at the entrance to the Fallen Rock Wildlife Area. If you have a second vehicle you may wish to leave it at the Tower Rock parking area to the north and hike from one to the other. I will list parking coords for both locations.

One time I was caching with nutandbolt along the river when some muggles shouted "What are you doing?" to us. Bolt was quick to reply "Looking for squirrels!" So that's where this one gets it's name.
