Geocache Description:

So you’ve driven out to Mount Vernon, found my Secret Stash (GC14A45), given up on trying to get to the Pot O’ Gold (GC5CF0), and are now looking for something else to do. Why not take a leisurely stroll through my fair city?

This cache will take you to four historical markers or memorials throughout town on your way to a small pill bottle containing a log only. At three of the markers, you will need to make a note of the dates. At the fourth marker, you will have to make note of the person memorialized. The listed coordinates are for the first marker.

Stage 1: Note that there are two different plaques on the marker. You will use the earliest of the three dates on the marker to calculate stage 2's coordinates. Please obey the posted hours and tread lightly.

Stage 2: Use the earliest date listed at stage 1 to calculate the coordinates for stage 2.

N 41° 55.(date-1747); W 091° 25.(date-1637).

Stage 3: Use the earliest date listed at stage 2 to calculate the coordinates for stage 3.

N 41° 55.(date-1394); W 091° 25.(date-1633).

Stage 4: Take the last name of the person depicted at stage 3, convert the letters into their corresponding numeric values (A=1, B=2, etc.), and then use the sum of the values to calculate the coordinates for stage 4.

N 41° 55.(sum + 426); W 091° 25.(sum + 323).

Final stage: Use the earliest date listed at stage 4 to calculate the location of the final stage and log.

N 41° 55.(date-1138); W 091° 26.(date-1538).

Three of the five locations can be reached via automobile. It is possible to reach the final stage by car, but it may not be the best idea depending on the season. The coordinates are all fairly accurate, and each marker is in plain view.
