This is an easy find, perfect for those exploring the historic area of Chadds Ford, PA
Located near the Sanderson Museum (on Creek Road just north of Rt. 1), this cache is a small ammo box filled with trinkets and a special gift for FTF. There is free parking across the street from the Sanderson Museum and it can also be accessed from the back of the parking lot behind Brandywine Prime. If you parked at the Chadds Ford Historical Society’s Visitor Center (coordinates N 39°52.501 W 75°35.546) to visit John Chad’s Stash, this is a short walk—just be careful along Creek Road. The cache is NOT in the circular garden with the birdhouse.
Christian C. Sanderson was the ultimate pack rat. During his life, he amassed a collection of artifacts that span 200 years of history. From a piece of wood from one of the railroad ties Abraham Lincoln’s funeral train passed over to Andrew Wyeth’s only pastel drawing; from Easter eggs he made as a child to authentic relics from the Revolutionary War; and from a picture made entirely from butterfly wings to Queen Victoria’s autograph; he saved it all. This astonishing and captivating collection is housed in the Sanderson Museum.
Because it’s staffed by volunteers, the museum is open limited hours (March through November, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday only, 12 Noon to 4 pm) unless you call ahead. The cache is accessible even when the museum is closed, but try to schedule your hunt during museum hours, as the museum is like no other. The cache was placed with permission from the Sanderson Museum, but not all volunteers may be aware of it. Museum admission is just $5 and there is something for everyone (even kids). Please stay off neighbors' properties on either side.
