This is one of Diana's favorite places from her past. She used to live nearby and walked through these woods to school! We hope you enjoy this site as much as she does and take some time to check out some of the other features of the area.
There is a bit of a puzzle to solve, but no extra driving required. Allow a couple of hours to truly enjoy the area. You may find the following tools helpful for this one: a compass, a calculator, a pencil and paper.
The cache is 1.4qt square Tupperware. Due to deteriorated conditions in the original cache site, the cache was relocated in Sept 2019 to a nearby site that is comparable to the original accessibility, and there is a new cache container and logbook to replace the original damaged ones. [The original contents were a logbook, pen and voice recorder, along with an assortment of goodies including plenty of HearMe items such as a PC headset, notecube, and Mplayer Deathmatch Gunk. (Sadly, the voicerecorder is missing, so you can no longer leave a message on the voicerecorder for the next geocachers.)]
Restrictions for this cache hunt:
Unfortunately, the area prohibits dogs and bikes. Also, it closes at sunset.
Here's the multi-step puzzle to tell you where to go:
Start at the parking lot location of 37 02.967 -122 04.996. If coming uphill, be on the lookout for the right hand turn into the lot just after a bend in the road.
First step:
If you lived right across from the parking lot entrance, your address would be AAA. Write this down before starting on the trails. Now find the trail head distance sign "B***** C**** T****". Take the distance to the F*** C**** T**** and Multiply by 40, and the result is BB. Now subtract BB from AAA and the result is CCC.
Second step:
At the same trail head sign, subtract the distance to the F*** C**** T**** from the distance to the R**** T****, call this D.D. Multiply D.D times 10 to get EE.
Third step:
At the same trail head sign, Take the distance to the R**** T**** and Multiply times 10 to get FF.
Fourth step:
Use the numeric sequence of these letters (dcab) to translate into numbers. e.g., z =26. Call this GGHH. Multiply GG times HH and add 1 to get III.
Head to 37 EE.III -122 FF.CCC to find the rest of the clues for the final cache location. Near this "site" you will find some information signs.
Fifth step:
Go to the large structure across the creek. Count the number of “arches” in all of the three sections, call this JJ. Subtract 1 from JJ, call this KK.
Come back to the "Sweat" sign, take the filled weight, call this LLL.
On the same sign, take the number of days to cool, call this M.
Multiply LLL times M to get NNN.
Add KK to NNN to get OOO.
Sixth step:
On the same sign, call the last year of operation PPPP and the number of barrels produced per firing QQQQ. Subtract QQQQ from PPPP, call this RRR.
Multiply M times 10 to get SS.
Take RRR and subtract SS then subtract EE, call this TTT.
Cache Location:
The cache is located at 37 EE.OOO -122 FF.TTT.
