This is a strenuous day hike trail. Rated as difficult and a good pair of boots is recommended. I rated it as a 4.5 due to the fact that the terrain approaching the cache is mildly hostile and the last 0.5 mile of trail to the saddle contains an 800 foot elevation gain with numerous switchbacks. In addition, the final ascent includes an elevation gain of 200 feet in the form of a hand over hand scramble to the peak. I don't want to scare people away with a 4.5 rating, but it's not a walk in the park.
Note: Bring lots of water in the hot months.
The trailhead(s) for the Vulture Peak Trail are accessed just off of Vulture Mine Road at N 33 52.921 W 112 49.298.
The first trail head is for foot traffic only located at N 33 52.630 W 112 49.043.
The second trail head located at N 33 52.808 W 112 48.139 requires a 4x4 vehicle.
Both trails are well marked with either sign posts for 4x4 or rock cairns for the foot path.
The cache container is a small, green ammunition can (standard 7.62 ammo can). The can is labeled "GEOCACHE". The cache contains miscellaneous items related to hiking including some kid stuff and one "large" prize. The cache is stashed below a large rock with smaller rocks covering it. The cache is barely visible.
