Geocache Description:

Place in the MTRP wilderness about a mile north of Highway 52. Start at Old Mission Dam and follow Oak Canyon Trail all the way to the cache. It’s an easy and very pleasant hike beside the Shepherd Canyon and Oak Canyon streambeds.

Here’s your chance to experience one of the best hiking trails of Mission Trails Regional Park. Lovely old oak trees grace the route and there are three surprising cataracts along the way although they are seasonally dry. With winter and spring runoff there are mini and micro waterfalls along the way that add pleasant counterpoints to the melodic songbirds of the area.

Allow plenty of time to explore the rocky cataracts and to rest in the shade of grand old oak trees. Bring a snack and enjoy a little-used area of Mission Trails Regional Park. Be mindful of snakes along the trail or amongst the rock outcroppings. While you are at it do be aware and avoid the Poison Oak that's often found adjacent to streamside oak trees.

Look for the cache container off the trail at the base of an old oak tree that burned during the devastating Cedar Fire. Expect a plastic Parmesan cheese container that can hold several small exchange items.
