This cache will take you on the path of a bike race which, until
2008, took place near downtown Rockford, MI each summer. If you
follow the bike route you will walk a bit less than one mile. The
Rockford Crit was apparently known as the most difficult criterium
in Michigan and you'll understand why as you climb the first hill.
The bicyclists at the most advanced level ran the circuit for 60
minutes + 2 laps for a $2000+ prize.
Park at the stage 1 coordinates and walk or bike the rest of the
cache. The final is near the first stage (the bike race is a loop,
after all).
Here are some things you need to know:
- Stage 1 is placed with the permission of Rockford United
Methodist Church. Please avoid hunting on Sunday morning or when
a wedding or funeral is just getting out.
- Stage 2 is placed with the permission of the homeowner.
Please stay on the sidewalk at stage 2.
- Stage 3 is placed with the permission of the homeowner.
- Stage 4 is placed with the permission of the Rockford Baptist
Church pastor and board of deacons. Please try to avoid creating a
trail through their lawn. This stage is NOT next door at the
adjacent house.
- Stage 5 is placed with the permission of the homeowner.
- Stage 6 is placed with the permission of Rockford Community
Federal Credit Union. Please be very discrete as you are
searching at a bank which is directly across the street from the
Rockford Police Department. If questioned, be honest and explain
what you are doing. I have permission from Connie Taylor at the
RCFCU to place this stage.
- Stage 7 is placed on private property. You do not have to
cross the fence.
The final cache is a Coleman Thermos with room for normal trade
items. The cache is stocked with goodies, so plan to take something
to make room if you leave something!
This is my first hide. I would appreciate any comments or
advice. The property owner at the final is not the owner of the
cache.
I'd like to thank Two Happy Hikers for their inspiring hides,
and for taking over the cache when I (ayryq) moved away.
