We found a lot of really neat rock and minerals in the lava flows and looked at all the old cinder cones. It was a really neat trip. We will have to go back do some more exploring. TFTC!! August 20, 2009 by Me & Bucky (8275 found) Bucky & I found this one while cruising south on the fourth day of our trip down to Las Vegas from Northeast Oregon. We stayed last night in the upper campground of Great Basin National Park, and would hike to the top of Wheeler Peak and drive west to Lunar Crater before the day was over. Got here right at sunset, so we had to hurry out into the lava field to find the cache. I always love caches that take you to lava flows. It is neat to see what the "raw" rock looks like that comes out of the earth, and interesting to see how long plants take to establish and grow. It was a warm day today (in the low 100s) and the rock was radiating alot of heat. Thanks for the cache!! View This Log
