Geocache Description:

This is the 20th in my series of hides near fire lookouts. This is Sugarloaf Mtn. Lookout, 6128', in the Malheur National Forest.

Sugarloaf has been in use as a fire detection post since 1932 and is staffed every summer. Please only climb the tower if you have been invited up. Remember, this is the lookout's summer home. During high fire danger, and during and after thunderstorms, the lookout will likely be very busy doing their job. Daylight hours only, please. Note for 2020: due to the COVID-19 pandemic, visitors will likely not be permitted inside staffed lookouts to protect the safety and wellness of the person on duty. There are several approaches to this area, check your maps before you go and fill up your tank, it's a long way to civilization from here! You can drive all the way to the top when the lookout is in use. A recently installed gate may be closed and locked on the lookout's days off and during the off-season to ward off vandalism. If this is the case, it will add about a 1/3 mile walk up. You're seeking a plastic snapware container with logbook and trades. I wouldn't even try this in the winter.
