Geocache Description:

Legends and Lore - South Jersey is an area rich with history that contains legendary characters and amazing stories. This series of caches is designed for you to learn some of the legends and stories of the area that we have grown to love. Some of the stories are true, some are just stories. Some are creepy, some funny, all are interesting. We hope you take the time to read the story that goes with each cache. Enjoy!

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates!

Remember the game Mad Gabs? Seems like that is how this town was named....or at least the way you are going to get the coordinates to this cache.

One of the nicest little fishing holes around. These waters are trout stocked. Bring your own pen, just in case...

So just how did Absecon get its name? Some say it is a bastardization of the Lenni Lenape word "Absegami" which means "Little Sea Water". It begins the same, but why the different ending?

According to the Noyes family, a lot of people assume that is how the town was named. But they are very wrong.

The true story, according to the Noyes family, was that there was a fisherman of Absecon Creek who continuously had his fishing gear stolen. He finally bought a dog named Abner, or "Ab" for short. Every time he saw someone near his gear, he would shout, "Ab, sic 'em!" And a town name was born.....
