February 29th only comes around once every 4 years, so now is the time to fill the date on your geo-calendar. What better way to earn your Leap Day Souvenir than at a fun filled event with your geo-friends!
The Location:
Leap Day 2016 falls on a Monday, so we decided to have the event at a location that you can grab dinner or simply join us for some dessert. The event will be held at the Las Casuelas Restaurant (off Washington & Highway 111) in the Point Happy Plaza in La Quinta.
The Time:
The event will be on February 29th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. We will meet and greet everybody at 6:00, the games will begin at 6:30, the gift swap will be at 7:00, and the raffle will be at 7:30. The event is scheduled to end at 8:00, but of course you are welcome to stay as long as you like.
Frog Themed Games:
We will have some fun frog themed games, so be prepared for some silly fun. Participating in the games is not a requirement to attend the event, but we are going to have fun and you will have a chance to win some trackable prizes.
Raffle:
There will be a free raffle for all those who attend this event. Each person will get a ticket just for showing up, but there will be some other ways to get more tickets....
- Logging a "Will Attend" before Feb 20th
- Wearing green to the event
- Show up sporting any kind of frog on you
- Drop a frog or green TB into the event cache
Leap Frog Gift Swap:
To participate in the gift swap, please bring a new gift worth approx $10 wrapped in green paper (or inside of a green gift bag). It can be lots of little items totaling $10 or one item worth $10, but please don't go over the limit. Gifts can be geocache related, something with a frog theme or it can just be something that is GREEN... just have fun with it! There will be children at this event, so please keep it nice and clean.
So as each person's name is called, they will have the choice of taking a gift that was already opened or opening up a new gift. It will be fun to see what items will "leap" from person to person! Any gifts remaining at the end of the Gift Swap will automatically be donated as an extra raffle prize.
New Souvenirs:
Groundspeak is celebrating the 2016 Leap Year with not just one, but TWO new souvenirs! The first souvenir can only be earned on Leap Day itself (the 29th) by attending a geocaching event such as this one. The other souvenir can be earned all weekend long (Feb. 27-29) by finding a geocache.
Leapin' Caches:
Rumor has it that there may be some Frog themed caches published on the weekend of this event, so keep an eye out for these very special new caches!!
