CRM-001 - Former Water Tower Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

onecrazycanadian: Hi,

The low health score on this cache has remained below 60 since my last contact. I see no sign of any maintenance being done to correct this and I have had no response from the owner since my last contact. Due to the lack of response I have no idea if any corrective action has been taken or if the owner has confirmed the cache is still in place.

Under the following portion of the guidelines contained in the Help Center, it states the cache will not be unarchived if it was archived for lack of maintenance. Consequently I am archiving the cache at this time.

Thanks!

Geocache Description:

This is a quick two stage multi-cache (10-15min) at a site where you might not know what you were looking at if you weren't geocaching... and have access to this information.

Caching Riding Mountain

The cache is locate along the Trans Canada Trail on the Rossburn subdivision section of this truly Canadian trail. At the posted coordinates you will find the foundation of an old water tower used to fill steam trains. These water towers were constructed approximately every 80 kilometres (50 miles), the distance a steam locomotive could safely travel between water refills. The Rolling River was used in this case as the water source, which has it's head waters originating in Riding Mountian National Park, then flows south through the Rolling River Reserve and discharges into the Little Saskachewan River. By the late 1950s, the railway companies converted to diesel-powered locomotives as well as closing down this specific rail line which became part of the Trans Canada Trail.

You can still find a surviving Canadian Pacific Railway Water Tower which has been designated as a Manitoba Provincial Heritage Site on Railway Avenue in the Village of Glenboro. (If somebody has the coordinates to this historic site, please post it in a note so I can update this site with the information.
