A small roadside cache next to a convenient picnic stop.
Despite the name of the bay, a small picnic spot with a bench and parking provides a view across the Fairlie Roads to Largs and the Train and Bus links to Glasgow and beyond.
The bay sits on the sheltered East side of the island that hosts some dramatic rock formations to the south and this raised beach near the centre of the coastline.
So, why is the bay called ‘Stinking Goat’? It’s a question we pondered over, debated, contrived and lied over before conceding defeat. Some of our number could mention a puir wee accident of the 4 legged variety that resulted in the washed up remains......but that was on Bute...and need not be mentioned further....so, answers on a postcard to......
