Geocache Description:

This should be a quick find, but this ancient little cemetery is just too cool not to visit. Please repsect the history here. You do not need to move any stones from the wall to find the cache. The cache is not placed on or near any monuments or grave markers. At certain times of the year, there may be honey bee hives placed in the area to help the orchard with pollination. Please park carefully - people drive way too fast on this road.

UPDATE 3/23/2010
After several DNF's, I went out to check on the cache. Much to my dismay, not only did I not find the cache, the entire corner of the wall where the cache was hidden had been dismantled!! I HOPE this wasn't the work of over-eager geocachers! Anyway, trusting those who love this sport, I replaced the cache. It is accessible from INSIDE the wall, and requires NO stones to be moved!!

According to the neighbor who owns the orchard next door, this cemetery dates back to when this area was the Brothertown Township Indian Reservation. Each family had 50 acres of land. Two brothers from the Dick family had adjoining land. They agreed to each designate a section of their property for the family cemetery. The stone marker near the road separates the original plots. This neighbor remembers playing near the cemetery as a boy, and recounts many wooden grave markers at that time. There are certainly others buried here whose graves are no longer marked. Thanks to Vern for all the interesting info on the history of this cemetery!
