This series of caches is dedicated to those New Mexico State Police officers who gave their final measure of devotion to the citizens of the state of New Mexico. Some lost their lives due to violence and others due to traffic and other accidents.
Officer Ramon Solis (age 30) and Officer Damon Talbot were killed in a helicopter accident while participating in a training exercise with a medivac helicopter near Roswell. The two officers and a third member of the New Mexico State Police, were riding on the hospital owned helicopter in order to learn procedures on how to set up landing zones at the scene of medical emergencies. It is believed the helicopter experienced a mechanical failure and crashed killing the officers and injuring the other occupants. Officers Solis and Talbot had both been with with the department ten months graduating in the same academy class. Officer Solis was survived by his parents.
