Great view from the parking area! Very short hike from parking lot to the cache. The cache is located just off the easier of the two main trails that summit Baldy.
The parking area has a great view (panorama) of Mt. Mckinley, Foraker, and Susitna. Not to mention the active volcanos Redoubt and Spurr. I wanted to place a cache in the mountains in an area with a good view without having to take a long hike. We frequently take friends from out of town to this area for the view and get acquainted with the Anchorage area. Parking is in a newly established public parking area. The cache is an ammo box with a log book and a few goodies. This is a nice short hike for kids. The box is panted camouflage green and brown – primarily to hide from muggles – not to make it difficult to find. Leaves and small sticks are pushed up on the corners of the box to conceal the edges – but the box is visible. The cache difficulty will go up to three stars when there is snow on the ground. This cache replaces the original Skyline Panorama which was moved out of private property.
