Pentimento #1 -- The Q'emiln Chameleon Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Urbn4str: I'm going to pull this cache. It has felt the impact of too many hands and is no longer the challenge it was meant to be. Thanks for all who visited.

Geocache Description:

This is the first in a series of Pentimento style caches (see definition below) and is located in Q'emiln (Kay-MEE-lin Park). I got this idea from a cache I found in Missoula, but have applied a different spin on the concept. If you need an additional hint, send me an e-mail. For those who find it, please be sure the area looks as it did -- which is to say very natural as that’s the idea behind the hide.

CAUTION: The bolts and chains on the cliff's edge are rock climbing anchors. This cache has nothing to do with them and is nowhere near the edge.

This cache was spawned from the Qualchan Overlook and Eagle’s Roost caches, which were created from one of Yellow Alligator’s Seed Pods.

I placed the seed pod in the cache! Check the logs below to see if it is still there. If you take the seed pod you must follow these rules:

1. The SEED POD must be planted within 30 miles of the mother cache,
Geo-Family Tree Cache (GCG8WF).

2. It must be planted within 30 days of discovery within a new cache of your own.
See for additional information see The Geo-Family Tree cache.

Note: Until the seed pod is moved along, there is limited room for trades. Even then, smaller (but high quality, of course) is better. Original contents include: 2003 USA Geocoin TB, Seed Pod, locking carabiner key chain, LED light key chain, buffalo capsule.

Pentimento – “An underlying image in a painting, as an earlier painting, a part of a painting, or original drawing, that shows through, usually when the top layer of paint has been worn or become transparent with age. These images, which were supposed to be hidden, often appear like ghosts – not entirely solid. Many result from a painter's decision that a nearly finished picture needs to be altered, but the new passage is made with too thin a layer of paint.”

I am a fourth generation offspring of Yellow Alligator’s Geo-Family Tree and a direct descendent of Eagle’s Roost. Though one might presume that I‘d be a bit flighty like my parents, I’ve actually turned out to be fairly stable and well grounded. Perhaps that’s what makes me such a good impressionist. Unlike my flamboyant and ostentatious friends, I prefer to keep to myself and feel more comfortable blending in with my surroundings – an artistic chameleon if you will. I also tend to be a rather moody and private soul, due in part to a rocky past. In fact, prying into my background will get you nowhere and will only cause me great pain. Being gentle is the best way to get me to open up. Even if we get off to a bad start, this can really turn things around and allow you to see the real me.

Pentimento -- things are not always as they appear . . .
