Geocache Description:

Make sure to add this to your Watchlist, as there will be updated information frequently.

Fairbank was settled along the "mighty" San Pedro river in 1870, and was known as Junction City until 1883, when it officially became known as Fairbank. In 1901, after the local mine died, it slowly has faded into the ever vanishing desert.

If you know and love the history of what was Arizona Territory and want to help preserve our history, this CITO is for you. Wild West meets modern explorers, armed with GPS as our guide.

Posted Coordinates above are for the parking lot.
Timetable of Events:
09:30-10:00 CITO Meet, Mingle, and Sign In; Issuing of *Custom Event Nametags, Travelbug drop and swap.
10:00-12:00 CITO
12:00-????, Potluck/BBQ

At approximately 14:00, coordinates will be handed out to for any cachers who want to get a head start on new caches placed for the event.

*Custom Nametags are available but must be requested prior to Thursday February 26.

Please post in your log how many of you will be coming and what you will bring, and we will update the overall list to reflect. We will be providing hot dogs and burgers.

Suggested items to bring; Gloves, Sunscreen, Hats.

Unfortunately, the BLM has declared Fairbank a dry town. SO....

After a long hard day of CITO and swapping tall tales of the exploits, you will surely need to unwind. There will be a Fairbank Afterhours event/fire for your spirited enjoyment.

On 9 Feb, we met with BLM to go over the permits, and they threw us a monkey wrench. We now need to have every individual who plans to participate in the CITO portion of the event complete a Form 1114-4, Individual Volunteer Service Agreement. Children under 18 who are going to participate need a Form 1114-5a, Parental Approval Form, as well as the "Individual Volunteer Service Agreement Form" completed for them.
Although we had hoped to only have a sign in on the morning of the event to cover this requirement, we were informed that all forms must also be signed by the regional commander at the Tucson office prior to the event. This new development is not really a big deal, it just needs to be completed as soon as possible. All forms must be signed and submitted by 18 February.

On Form 1114-4, leave block 2b. (SSN) blank, use this as the entry for block 4. “Volunteer, Fairbank Cache In Trash Out Event February 2009. Pick up trash along designated route.”

Here is a list of options for getting the completed forms back to us so that we can submit them to the BLM by the deadline:

1. You can fax your completed form to the BLM directly: Subject: Fairbank Cleanup 28 Feb 09; ATTN: Robert Steele; Fax Number: 520-439-6422.

2. You can scan your completed form and email it to robert_steele@blm.gov or ck_desert_dwellers@yahoo.com or jared.adam.young@gmail.com

3. You can mail it to the BLM Office, ATTN: Robert Steele, 1763 Paseo San Luis, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635. If you choose to mail your form, please make sure it is postmarked by 14 February 2008, so that we meet the deadline.

4. You can drop off the completed form at the BLM office at the address listed above.

5. C&K_Desert_Dwellers will be at the Chinese Buffet on Friday, 13 February 2008, at 6 p.m. to take forms in person. If you choose this option, please email C&K at the address above to notify them of your intentions. Or you can email them and make other arrangements to deliver the form in person.

We are sorry for this gross inconvenience. However, keep in mind that we are dealing with the US Government and we cannot possibly help them out without the mound of paperwork they require. If you have ANY questions, concerns, or problems completing the forms, please do not hesitate to contact C&K at 520-456-9652 or Soulofall at 520-732-1127. Again, we apologize for tossing this at everyone, but we have no way around this formality.

Please let us know when you have submitted your form to the BLM via fax, email, or snail mail. Thanks in advance, we know its alot of extra work.
