FTF Prize is somewhat small as resourses are limited in the area. At the time I had no small items to put in the cache so there is only a log book and pencil. Will drop off a few small items on my next visit.
Isaac's Harbour light is no more than a navigation light today as many of our lighthouses along the sea coast of Nova Scotia. There were lighthouses up and down the coast, which helped guide, the ships safely on their voyages. The lighthouse keepers would light the light’s each night and when visibility was reduced in fog start the old air foghorns. With a combination of lighthouses and buoys (bells and whistle) navigators could find their way along the coast safely.
Many people have lived in these isolated sites over the years including myself. I lived at another Lighthouse nearby and can remember what it was like as a child growing up. Lighthouse living was very different than living in a community, you made your own entertainment, you were confined to your small area and sometimes the only way out was by boat. The fright ship you bring your fuel, food and other stores a few times a year. Grocery shopping at the market was luxury you didn't have.
As a small boy I can remember when I would walk more than 5 km a day to school. I remember while walking to school in the winter I would slid my lunch box along the snow as I would make my way along the beach. I have many fond memories, which I'm sure most people would have of Lighthouse living.

I was involved with placing two caches at the Port Bickerton Lighthouse, which is located on the second point of land to the Southwest. Traveling east, take 316 to 211 after visiting Port Bickerton light you can continue on 211 to # 7 and take in Historic Sherbrooke Village.

Enjoy the many sites along the Marine drive from Halifax to Canso.

I’ve attached the link to Lighthouses on Nova Scotia’s Coast. You will find a link to the Port Bickerton site from this link as well.

Thanks for visiting the eastern shore and local lighthouses of Guysborough County.
