Geocache Description:

This ammo box cache is perfect for Eastern Sierran hikers - should be snow-free most of the year. This is an incredible geologic site - not to be missed. Suggest good hiking shoes. Only .5 mi but 30 min rough loose mostly uphill hike to cache.

From Highway 395, take Highway 120 about 3 miles and turn left onto dirt Panum Crater Rd. Park in the lot at the end of the road, less than 2 mi from Highway 120. Passenger cars will be fine.

From parking lot, take trail uphill to first junction and go left to the Plug (not Rim) Trail. Keep left at unmarked junctions with small view trails and approach a ridge to the north with Jeffrey pines.

You're close when you see one 8' and one 25' pine tree on your right. The cache is slightly uphill (left) and 20' from the main path, concealed in a large split rock crevice. Please completely re-hide.

From the cache site, you have a great 360 view of the Sierras and especially beautiful Mono Lake. Hiking boots or sturdy tennis shoes STRONGLY recommended. NO flip flops - very sharp rocks and slippery trail.
