It runs East-West connecting the
Tiger Mt. Trail near the High Point trailhead with the Preston
Trail off the Preston trailhead. It's named after Dwight Riggs,
long-time Mountaineer and Issaquah Alps Trail
Club.(Information

Perky is a little Yorkshire
Terrier who thinks he's much bigger than he is. When he can
get out for a hike in the woods, oh boy look out. His pace is
mean! Today, he led his Pop (my B-I-L) and I on a little hike
on Tiger Mountain. It's about 1.3 miles up and gains about
700 feet in elevation. Not a hard hike, but a good one.
Along the way there are two other caches:

If you haven't found them yet, they are highly recommended. But
back to the hike. Perky doesn't care much for maps, compasses
or (gasp) GPSr. He just wants to get out and explore.
But for us human types, things need to be a bit more organized, so
you'll need to follow directions. We finally ended up in a
dense forest canopy where satellite signals have a hard time
penetrating. But they're not needed here anyway.
A helpful map is the Green Trails™ Tiger Mountain 204S. It
will show trails that are not on the USGS topographical map.
From
the Preston Trailhead (N47 31.848 W121 56.740), head uphill for
about 530 feet until the power line road is reached. Travel
west for 0.6 miles. Look for the Preston Trail on your left
(N47 31.762 W121 57.458). Its a well traveled trail.
Follow it uphill for a 0.33 miles where you'll see a junction (N47
31.525 W121 57.321). One trail continues up the hill toward
West Tiger Mt #3. The other is Dwight's Way and goes in a
westerly direction. Take Dwight's Way for another 0.33 miles
until a second junction is reached. One trail goes up the
mountain to West Tiger Mt. #3 and the other continues on Dwight's
Way. From this junction is a big ole stump about 60 feet
east. The cache is at the base of the stump. It's small
with just enough room for a log and a small TB.
A hundred feet beyond the junction
on Dwight's Way is an old foot bridge crossing a very nice
stream. Perky wanted to continue on but this was the limit of
his abilities, so we stopped and enjoyed the forest. Hope you
do too. |
